ADIT-2023: Museum as a Space for Communication. Murmansk, August 19–25, 2023

The twenty-seventh conference of the ADIT non-profit partnership was held in Murmansk from August 19 to 25, 2023. The Murmansk Regional Museum of Local History served as the conference's main partner.

This conference can be described as "the most." It was:

  • The northernmost conference ever held by our partnership. ADIT came to the Arctic for the first time;
  • The largest conference in terms of participants. Over 200 participants from Vladivostok and Kaliningrad came to Murmansk, and another 50+ connected to the conference sessions online;
  • The largest conference in terms of partners: there were 20 (!) of them, and we are extremely grateful to all of them;
  • One of the most complex and intensive programs in ADIT's history: in addition to the traditional agenda and breakout sessions, conference participants visited museums in Murmansk, Severomorsk, and Polyarny: for the first time, ADIT events were held in a closed administrative-territorial entity (ZATO);
  • The northernmost excursion: conference participants visited Teriberka, where, after visiting the sandy and rocky beaches of the Barents Sea, they were transported for a day from summer to early winter.

The Arctic Project Workshops were held aboard the nuclear icebreaker "Lenin" at the Atomic Energy Information Center. The workshop theme, "From Dreams to Achievements: Natural, Scientific, and Technical Heritage and the Fates of People. The Human Dimension," was developed by the presenters and more than 30 participants. The "School of Schools" project, given the timing of the conference, when schoolchildren are on vacation outside the Murmansk Region, was held in the spring. The audio guide "Voices of the North," created during the workshops, was published on the izi.travel portal. Recordings of the conference sessions are published on the ADIT YouTube channel.
